Domino's Style Burger Pizza

Ever since the lockdown, one thing I have tried doing is to make our Friday dinners exciting by recreating a restaurant style dish so that we don't miss out on our weekly outings to our favourite restaurants.Though both are extremely different, homemade food has it's charm, isn't it?Some days it's pizza and on some it's Chole-Bhature.

Yesterday however I decided to try something new.New as in,something we haven't yet tasted in a restaurant. We have tasted Burger and we have tasted Pizza...this is a mix of both- Burger Pizza.Domino's has this on their menu and when I saw CookingShooking video on making this at home in a very simple method,I didn't think twice and started the preparations early evening as I was making the Burger buns from scratch too.You can try this with store bought burger buns too,to save time.

I tried the spiced Paneer filling for myself and Sausage filling for Ajay and Arjun. It can be entirely up to your choice.I also added some broccoli as we love it here.

Flatten each ball by patting the center(6-7cm diameter),keep the edges intact like a pizza, this will ensure the buns will not puff up while baking.

Prepare all the dough balls the same way.Cover with a wet towel and let it proof for an hour.

Preheat oven to 200C.

Apply milk on top of the buns and sprinkle herbs and seasoning.

Bake for 13-15 minutes or until the buns are golden brown, cooked and sound hollow when tapped.

Brush some butter on top of each buns and immediately cover with a towel. This method helps in trapping the steam which would result in super soft buns.

Meanwhile,make the filling

Oregano/Italian seasoning - as required

Top both the portions with cheese.

Preheat oven to 250C on Broil mode and bake the burgers for 3-5 minutes or until the cheese starts bubbling and changes colour slightly.

Mushroom Capsicum Pizza ~For the Punch!

It is time for the punch again, yes doesn't it seem only few days back when we posted the last one?Time seems to be flying and how!!Soon,we'll be completing a year of Sweet Punch challenges, something which started as a small discussion between Ria,Maria and myself as to how to simplify baking and make it easy for everyone saw us creating a group and the numbers are growing day by day.

Hopefully,by next month,we plan to start a separate blog for the same and then on,things should become a li'l more organized.

For now,let us see what this month's punch is all about. We chose a Pizza recipe as this month we bake bread.I host this month's challenge,so the recipe was chosen by me from The Pioneer Woman, the topping was to be of one's own choice.

The dough is really very simple to make and I just couldn't wait for the mandatory time before I baked the pizza!I chose the topping recipe from another blog which I adore,Raaga's Singing chef. Her mom's Pizza sauce is very famous with her friends so I wanted to try that out.It got us talking over various topics on a long distance call and I am so glad I tried the sauce and I am saving some for some Pizza Sandwich!

Mushroom Capsicum Pizza
Recipe for the base - The Pioneer Woman
Recipe for the topping/sauce - Raaga

Ingredients for the Pizza

Pizza crust
Mushroom Capsicum Sauce
Mozarella Cheese - 100 gms
Olive Oil - 1 tbsp

Picnik collage

Ingredients[For the crust-makes two crusts]

Active Dry Or Instant Yeast - 1 tsp
All-purpose Flour - 4 cups
Kosher Salt - 1 tsp [or regular salt]
Extra Virgin Olive Oil - ⅓ cups

Method[for the crust]
Sprinkle yeast over 1 1/2 cups warm (not lukewarm) water.
In a mixer, combine flour and salt. With the mixer running on low speed (with paddle attachment), drizzle in olive oil until combined with flour. Next, pour in yeast/water mixture and mix until just combined.
Coat a separate mixing bowl with a light drizzle of olive oil, and form the dough into a ball. Toss to coat dough in olive oil, then cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and store in the fridge until you need it.
***It’s best to make the dough at least 24 hours in advance, and 3 or 4 days is even better.

Mushroom Capsicum Topping/Sauce

Ingredients

Onion - 1,chopped finely
Tomatoes-
2-3 medium,chopped finely
Capsicum - 1,chopped finely
Button Mushrooms - 4,chopped finely
Tomato Puree - 2 tbsp
Tomato Ketchup - 1 tbsp
Sugar - 1 tsp
Oregano - 1 tsp
Pepper - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to Taste

Method

In a pan, heat the oil and add the onions. Fry for a minute or two. Add the capsicum and mushrooms and fry for 2-3 minutes. Add the oregano, salt, sugar and pepper and fry for another minute. Add the tomatoes and fry for 2-3 minutes. Add the puree and ketchup and cook the mixture for a couple of minutes.

For making the Pizza

Sprinkle your pizza stone or baking sheet with cornmeal/semolina.Roll out the pizza to your liking[thin/thick].
Spread the oil over the dough. Spread enough sauce over the base. Sprinkle the cheese over the pizza.

Preheat oven to the maximum temperature[ideally 500F,but since many ovens have the maximum temperature as 200C,that would be fine too].

Slice into wedges and serve!

How did we like it - I served this Pizza during the much watched India-Srilanka World Cup final. To be honest, the match was so nail-biting that anything served on the plate would have disappeared!Jokes apart, this pizza was much appreciated, especially the sauce.I made two pizzas of the said measurement.Though I am not very happy with the looks[the pizza did not brown evenly though it was cooked fine]the taste is great and I guess that is fine for the time being!

Tandoori Paneer,Roasted Capsicum&Corn Pizza!!

"What to make for dinner??"A question which pops up before me every day.Ever since I started having rotis for lunch,I detest making them again for dinner.Rice is a no-no and so is rice-based items and sadly I end up making rotis itself. Its been a while since we ordered food from outside or dined out, thanks to the Swine flu,but to be frank,we did not miss it much[dining out that is,NOT Swine flu:)].

We have not been great fans of Pizza.Once in a while we do have the urge and we order from Dominos,be the perfect couch potatoes and curl up in front of the tv.Thats it.Off late I have been saying No to Ajay’s offer for a pizza takeaway ever since I saw an ad for a pizza that is loaded heavily with cheese-not the normal one[that is tempting],the one which only has cheese..umm,I am not sure I want that!!I have made Pizza once long back and loved it but have not recreated the magic again.

Then comes the dessert queen with her Pizza, not one but two of them back to back.I had bookmarked the first one and planned to make it this weekend. But no,she tempted me too much with this one. While I was going through the post,I was thinking of a veggie alternative to the Tandoori chicken sausage and Paneer was chosen unanimously..by me:).

We ♥ed it..;).I made it almost low-fat..quite an oxymoron, can pizza ever be low-fat???Chose a whole wheat base and pressed the break button while grating the cheese. The topping was spectacular, paneer was soft, roasted capsicum tasted smoking hot and the sweet corn gelled perfectly with the rest of the ingredients.

Tandoori Paneer,Roasted Capsicum &Corn Pizza
Recipe adapted from Ria [made the topping vegetarian]

Ingredients

Base - 1 no , I made a whole wheat base following this recipe

Paneer- 100 gms,cut into thin squares
Tandoori Masala- 1½ tsp [I used Everest Tandoori Masala]
Red Chilli Flakes- 1 tsp
Salt- ¼ tsp
Curd- 1 tsp
Oil-2 tsp

Method
Marinate paneer cubes with tandoori masala, red chilli flakes, salt and curd for 30 mins.
Heat oil in a pan and saute the paneer till done.
Reserve.

Roasted Bell Pepper
Bell Pepper- 1 no.
Hold the pepper using a fork and roast it over the flame till the skin gets blackened.
Rub the black skin off and discard the seeds.
Cut them into bite sized portions.

Assembling the Pizza
Roll out the pizza base as directed here.
Spread 1½ tbsp of Pizza sauce over it.
Sprinkle roasted bell pepper, 3-4 tbsp of sweet corn kernels and sautéed Paneer.
Spread another 1 tbsp of sauce over it.
Grate the cheese over it as even as you can.
I sprinkled some oregano on top of the cheese.
Bake them in a pre-heated oven ( at the max.temp) for 10-12 mins.
Cut into wedges and serve!

I didn't couldn't take more pics as I was hungrythere was no proper lighting in the kitchen and I was yearning for a bite it was getting late:):):).

Bread Pizza - Instant gratification!!!

There is no food in the world which could make you feel so happy and content than a snack..and that too on a Sunday..after that heavy lunch and a relaxing nap!! I am sure most of you are nodding your heads now;-).I wish someone would wake me up with steaming hot cup of chai and a plate of..anything would do yaar..finger chips, banana chips, pazham pori, onion pakodas..the list is endless. But I don't have that luxury,so I make myself happy by making something myself.Hubby is not too fond of deep fried snacks and always insists that I try and make some non-fry alternatives.Oh how do I make him realize that there isn't any no-fry version to match that piping hot molagu bajji..!!!

Last Sunday, after our nap hubby was seated in front of the TV with a clear *dont disturb* sign coz he was watching his favorite team playing against thier rivals, yeah Manchester United Vs Chelsea.I knew this was the right time..he wouldn't mind eating anything at this time coz he was too engrossed in watcing the match.I scanned the kitchen for possible culprits, but to be frank, even I was in no mood to make something elaborate-even deep fried goodies. Then I saw a loaf of bread, didn't want to make the usual toast or usli.It didn't sound exciting at all.And then I knew what to make. After my last trial with pizza..I was hooked.Decided to make Instant pizza this time using bread.

There is no particular recipe for this one.Just go ahead and add whatever toppings you fancy, add the sauce and the cheese and you have the tasty bread pizza ready!!!

Bread Pizza

Ingredients

Sliced Bread - as required
Pizza sauce - I used ready made sauce
Veggie toppings - Chop the veggies and saute them in a little olive oil.Add crushed pepper, oregano, chilli flakes and salt to taste
Mozzarella cheese grated - as required

Method

Spread the pizza sauce over the bread.
Add the toppings and the grated cheese.
Add some more oregano.
Arrange on a grill rack and bake in a pre-heated oven for about 5 minutes or till the cheese melts.

Serve hot!!

Pizza-Ooh la la!!

Pizza..a soft chewy base loaded with vegetables and showered with a generous sprinkling of Mozarella cheese..oh my!!!I can't stop raving about the good ol' pizza.I never tried making it at home coz it looked like so much of hardwork!!While all we did was call up Dominos and order one or rush to the nearest Pizza hut and relish it there.Due to our dietary restrictions,Pizza was really a once-in-a-while treat.I always wished I could make my own pizza base, but couldn't muster enough courage for that.Had read so much about people's failed attempts with yeast, that I really didn't want to try.But I also read about so many people emerging victorious with yeast,so that was a thought tucked away in the back of my mind.

During our last super market trip,I got myself a packet of yeast.I looked at it lovingly and all..just hoping that it works for me too.And then I did it...thought to myself-what the heck,I'll try it once and see if it works..or else,I will never try again.I should say MBP-Cheese was really an inspiration.I had decided that if I participate,it has got to be Pizza.I hopped on to dear Shilpa's blog and saw what I really wanted to make.A guilt-free recipe for the pizza dough-base,that of whole wheat-just what the doctor ordered.I hit jackpot and went about making it.My joy knew no bounds when the dough rose-giving me a teeny weeny hope that it might work after all!!And it did..I followed the insructions carefully..and voila!!!I made my Pizza..ooh la la!!

Whole wheat Vegetable Pizza
Ingredients(for the base)
Whole wheat flour/atta- 1 cup
Active dry yeast - 1/2 tsp
Sugar - 1/2 tsp
Salt - 1/2 tsp
Italian seasoning(I used Oregano+chilli flakes) - 1/2 tsp
Olive oil - as required

Method

In about 1/4 cup of warm water, add sugar and salt. (Heat water for 10secs in microwave). Add the yeast, slightly give a shake to the bowl and leave it for about 5mins. Now add flour, Italian seasoning and make it into a dough (of about chapathi dough consistency). Add more water if necessary.Pour some olive oil and mix well.Cover the dough with a damp muslin cloth.Leave the dough for 10mins.

The dough increases to about double the volume in this time. If the dough is of same size as you started, then there is something wrong and you might want to leave the dough in a warm place for a little more time.

Press the dough to remove air. Roll the dough into a round using a rolling pin or just spread with fingers.Prick the base with a knife/fork at few places.(refer Shilpa's recipe for more tips)

Drizzle a little olive oil on top. Bake it in a preheated(heated to 150C for 10mins) oven for about 5-8mins.

Toppings
I did not have many veggies in stock,so I just used the basic ones.Onions-Capsicum-Tomato-Mushroom.I sauteed all of it in a little olive oil, added salt to taste and crushed pepper and some more oregano.
For the sauce-I used ready made Pizza sauce.
A cup of mozzarella cheese.

Method

Spread the sauce on the base and spread all the veggies.
Spread the grated mozzarella cheese on top.
Bake in a pre-heated oven-180C till the cheese melts(approx-15 mts).
Serve hot.

I am sending this Pizza to Siri for MBP.This months theme is Cheese. MBP is a Monthly blog patrolling event started by Coffee-The spice cafe.
