Domino's Style Burger Pizza

Ever since the lockdown, one thing I have tried doing is to make our Friday dinners exciting by recreating a restaurant style dish so that we don't miss out on our weekly outings to our favourite restaurants.Though both are extremely different, homemade food has it's charm, isn't it?Some days it's pizza and on some it's Chole-Bhature.

Yesterday however I decided to try something new.New as in,something we haven't yet tasted in a restaurant. We have tasted Burger and we have tasted Pizza...this is a mix of both- Burger Pizza.Domino's has this on their menu and when I saw CookingShooking video on making this at home in a very simple method,I didn't think twice and started the preparations early evening as I was making the Burger buns from scratch too.You can try this with store bought burger buns too,to save time.

I tried the spiced Paneer filling for myself and Sausage filling for Ajay and Arjun. It can be entirely up to your choice.I also added some broccoli as we love it here.

Warm water - if required,to knead the dough

Make into small even balls, using your palms to smoothen the dough.Cover the dough balls with a wet towel for 3-5 minutes.

Flatten each ball by patting the center(6-7cm diameter),keep the edges intact like a pizza, this will ensure the buns will not puff up while baking.

Prepare all the dough balls the same way.Cover with a wet towel and let it proof for an hour.

Preheat oven to 200C.

Apply milk on top of the buns and sprinkle herbs and seasoning.

Bake for 13-15 minutes or until the buns are golden brown, cooked and sound hollow when tapped.

Brush some butter on top of each buns and immediately cover with a towel. This method helps in trapping the steam which would result in super soft buns.

Meanwhile,make the filling

For the Filling

Pizza sauce/Marinara sauce - as required

Mayonnaise - 1/3 cup(mix together mayonnaise and herbs to make a herbed mayo)

Oregano/Italian seasoning - as required

Spiced Paneer - Marinate about 50gms paneer in turmeric, chilli powder, salt and a pinch of kasoori methi.Saute the paneer on a hot tawa using a tsp of butter for a minute.Remove from the pan, reserve.

Vegetables - Capsicum,Tomato,Broccoli or any vegetables of your choice like corn, baby corn etc.

Shredded Cheese - as required

Assembling the Burger Pizza

Slice the burgers into two horizontally.

Layer the spiced paneer cubes and capsicum over the base and broccoli and tomato slices on the top portion.

Top both the portions with cheese.

Preheat oven to 250C on Broil mode and bake the burgers for 3-5 minutes or until the cheese starts bubbling and changes colour slightly.

Once done, place the top portion of the bun on the bottom part while hot so that it sticks together.

Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce and Roasted Vegetables

Pasta with Tomato cream sauce &roasted vegetables
It's been a while isn't it,well every time I blog I hope it isn't a one-time thing and plan to continue with it at least once in a week but life has other plans.I've decided to take it as it is and post as and when when time permits :)

We love having Pasta for dinner at least once in a week.I make it the same way every time, with lots of vegetables, white sauce and very less cheese. So when we were dining out once and I saw Pasta with tomato and cream sauce in a restaurant,I was anxious to try it and see how it tasted.I love having a blob of marinara sauce on my plate when I have pasta anyway,so I was sure I'd like it.
Pasta with Tomato cream sauce &roasted vegetables
I wasn't wrong, the pasta was delicious.I wanted to try it at home and decided to go by my taste buds while adding the ingredients. To give it a healthy twist,I added some roasted vegetables as well.Paired with a cheesy garlic bread, this was a meal I was very eager to serve and eat :)

Pasta..as we like it! | Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce

I contemplated for a while before posting this recipe here.Primarily, the pictures are not so blog worthy and more so taken in my kitchen during dinner time and secondly, this is a recipe which works best for us,not so sure about Pasta lovers. But then, what good is a recipe if not shared and posted on the blog anyway!

From disliking Pasta in any form to having it at least once a week for dinner,we've come a long way.Since we were not very fond of Pasta served at restaurants,I cook up a recipe specifically for our taste every once in a while.Dunked in white sauce with an array of vegetables and a served with a blob of Pasta sauce(yes!)is more like Pasta made our way.Sometimes,I bake the whole thing and served with some garlic bread on the side,it makes for a delicious gourmet meal:)

We love Penne & Macaroni as it soaks up the sauce and keeps the pasta warm for a while, you can try this with any pasta of your choice.Add vegetables which you like, add more cheese for variety(think cheddar!)and customize it according to your taste.

Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce-ingredients
Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce

Ingredients

Macaroni - 1 cup
Mixed Vegetables of your choice - I used Broccoli,Mushroom,Carrot & Baby Corn- all together loosely 2 cups, chopped
Onion - 1,chopped finely
Olive Oil - 1 tbsp
Butter - 2 tbsp
Olive oil - 1 tbsp
Flour - 2 tbsp
Milk - 2 1/2 cups
Salt and Pepper to taste
Dried herbs of your choice - 1/2 tsp each (we like Basil and Oregano)
Amul Cheese cube - 1,finely chopped (you can add any cheese of your choice)

Method
Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce-step1
Cook the pasta - In a deep pan add around 10 cups of water to boil.Add a tbsp of salt. When the water comes to a rolling boil, tip in the pasta.Cook for 12-13 minutes or until the pasta is cooked 'al dente'.Immediately drain the pasta to a pan of cold water.Drain again and keep aside.
Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce-step2
Cook the vegetables - I usually add the vegetables to the pasta during the last 5 minutes so that the pasta and the vegetables cook together. You can do this separately too.
Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce-step3
In a kadai/wok add the olive oil and saute onions and mushrooms till soft.Add it to the cooked vegetables and keep aside.
Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce-step4
In the same wok,add butter+olive oil.Mix in the flour and saute for 2-3 minutes.Mix in the milk little at a time stirring all the while so that no lumps form.Let it come to a boil-it will look thin in the beginning but with start thickening as it cooks.
Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce-step5
Add salt and pepper to taste.Mix in the dried herbs and the cheese.
Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce-step6
Now add the cooked vegetables along with the sauteed mushrooms and onions to the sauce and cook for 3-5 minutes or until the sauce coats the pasta and vegetables.Check for seasoning.
Serve hot.

Pasta with Vegetables in White Sauce

Notes
  • You can make the pasta plain without vegetables or add more vegetables of your choice like tomato, corn, zucchini etc.I have added vegetables of our choice,I make a plain version with only broccoli too-the possibilities are endless.
  • Follow the directions for cooking pasta as it can go from cooked to overcooked in no time.I cook the pasta for exactly 12 minutes and usually add the carrots/baby corn during the last 6-7 minutes and Broccoli during the last 3 minutes.
  • Do not throw away the water in which you cooked the pasta and vegetables-it contains starch and can be used to thin down the white sauce if it becomes too thick.

Broccoli Stir Fry

My first post..will start with a healthy one!!Health Food-Naay.Broccoli-No way!,this was how I reacted before.I always believed that food should be tasty..so what if there's loads of butter added..so whats if there's loads of sugar added?I never cared for such things and no wonder my health went for a toss and I put on kilos of weight without even realizing. When I was required to lose all that weight,I was forced to go on a healthy diet which I followed strictly.I fell in love with the tasty and healthy alternatives for all that fatty food and my body is thanking me for it!!

Broccoli Stir Fry

Ingredients

Broccoli -1 medium sized-cut into florets
Onions-1 chopped into cubes
Mushrooms-10 chopped into four pieces
Stir fry sauce-2 tbsp(It can be substituted with 2 tbsp soya sauce and 1 tbsp tomato sauce)
Oil-1tbsp(preferably refined oil)
Salt and Pepper-To taste

Method

Wash Broccoli florets well in hot water.
In a Wok/Kadai pour 1tbsp oil and fry onions on high flame till they become slightly brown in colour.
Add the mushrooms and fry till mushroom loses its moisture.
Add the broccoli and mix everything well.
Add the stir fry sauce, salt and pepper.Mix well.
Keep stirring till the broccoli gets cooked-it takes approximately 5 mts.
Serve it on a bed of lettuce leaves.

This dish can be had as a meal by itself along with a salad.Broccoli is high in folic acids and is very good for health.Works well if you are a weight watcher!!
